These managed anti-spam services pass your email via their own managed hosting servers before delivering it to your own servers, minus the spam. You just change your domain's mail server (MX) DNS record, and require no additional local software.

Microsoft Exchange is a very popular email platform, that has become a corporate standard. These companies offer a hosted version that lets you concentrate on your business and someone else manage the servers and service for you, including spam filtering, while you get the benefits of a familiar and trusted application. Some offer a premium spam filtering service (such as MX Logic, Postini, Commtouch or Cloudmark) as an optional extra.
